Opioids (sometime called ‘strong painkillers’) can be really useful for a short time – after an injury or surgery. But longer term they aren’t much help. They only reduce pain for about 10 percent of people in the long term. And they cause powerful side effects and even addiction.
This handy leaflet helps you think about whether your pain medicines are really helping. When you’ve completed it, have a think – and if you are concerned at all about using opioids for your long term pain, speak to your doctor or pain specialist.
